St. Petersburg experienced much of its growth in the 1920s as a popular resort area. Many of the homes there were built in this time period, when superior craftsmanship was the norm in homebuilding. In addition to this, much of the Mediterranean architecture built in those days remains and has been restored over the years, providing the city with a lingering resort-town atmosphere. With a year-round schedule of events and a wealth of museums, activities and attractions, St. Petersburg still has a strong appeal with tourists.
